PLN received Rp 4.8 trillion (US$ 506 million), that was one of the headlines i woke up
to this week. A number of questions went through my mind,
- what the hell happened to the $658 something million that the world bank ‘donated’ to supposedly this very same project?
- why are the 4 largest banks in Indonesia effectively bailing out PLN, and not taking advantage of this to privatize the power industry in Indonesia?
- How much does it cost to make a power station?
- where’s the cat!

Living in Kuta has its advantages and drawbacks. Advantage – there is always someone ready to sink a couple of beers. Negative – the school I volunteer at is way out the back of petitenget, and although it only takes me 30 min or so to get there the drive is made hair raising by other motorists! Advantage – Kuta beach is within walking distance. Negative – currently the powers that be have decided in their infinite wisdom, to dig up most of jl Seminyak, causing some really horrid traffic jams, meaning everywhere else is an hour away!
I wake up early most mornings, push the cat off my face stumble downstairs and feed her, turn the kettle on, and stumble into the bathroom to brush my teeth. Unfortunately its at about this time that I catch the reflection of the top half of my body. Even looking through the sleep in the corner of my eyes I am painfully aware that 30 is not that far away and I no longer have the body I used to take for granted.
